INSTALLATION & PRICING

HVAC Pricing Guide

HVAC installation typically costs between $5,000 and $12,500 for a standard, full-system replacement, with an average of around $7,000–$9,000. Prices vary widely based on home size, system type, and efficiency.

Average Installation Costs by System Type

Central AC & Furnace Combo $5,000 – $14,000
Heat Pump System $6,000 – $15,000
Ductless Mini-Split $4,800 – $10,000+
Geothermal System $20,000 – $30,000+

Key Cost Factors

Labor

Professional installation labor typically accounts for $500 – $2,500 of the total, though it can be higher for complex jobs.

System Size & Efficiency

Units are sized by tonnage (1.5 to 5 tons) and rated by efficiency (SEER2/AFUE). Higher efficiency units cost more upfront but save on energy.

Ductwork

Installing new ductwork can add $3,000 – $5,000 or more to the project depending on complexity.

Permits & Removal

Old unit removal, disposal fees, and necessary municipal permits can add $200 – $1,300.

Installation Process

01
Assessment & Planning

Professionals evaluate your home's load, check ductwork, and plan the best unit location for airflow and efficiency, often getting permits.

02
Site Preparation

The work area is cleared, protected (floor coverings), and the old system is disconnected, with power and gas shut off.

03
Old System Removal

The existing furnace, AC unit, and related components (ducts, lines) are carefully removed.

04
Ductwork & Pad Prep

The area for the new unit is leveled, often with a gravel base, and ductwork is sealed, repaired, or modified for the new system.

05
Unit Installation
  • Indoor: Air handler/furnace is set, leveled, secured, and connected to ducts and drain lines.
  • Outdoor: Condenser unit is placed on a new pad, ensuring clearance for airflow, and secured.
  • Connections: Refrigerant lines, electrical wiring, and gas lines are connected.
06
Thermostat & Testing

The new thermostat is installed. Technicians perform detailed checks (57-point process) on electrical, gas, airflow, and refrigerant charge.

07
Customer Walkthrough

Installers review the new system, its features, and discuss maintenance with you.
